Austin sits on the banks of the Colorado River and has two lakes within its city limits and five more lakes in surrounding areas. Austinites enjoy jogging along the banks, children and dogs in tow or canoeing peacefully along the sparkling water. Rich in natural beauty as well as energized with a wealth of business and real estate opportunities, Austin combines a cutting edge business environment with down-home hospitality.
Little known fact: Austin hosted the biggest dinner party in Texas and so by extension, in the world, when Pappy Lee Daniel invited every Texan to his inaugural dinner at the Governor Mansion to honor his second term as governor in 1941. The Mansion grounds and nearby streets served as dining room to the twenty thousand people that attended. The guests consumed 19,000 pounds of barbecue, 1,000 pounds of potato salad, and 1100 pounds each of pickles and onions. Thirty-two thousand cups of coffee were sweetened with 1,000 pounds of sugar. Now that’s Texas hospitality.
