Ballet Austin: The Nutcracker performances will be running all through December at the Long Center for the Performing Arts, with nine shows in total running from the 4^th until the 23^rd. This is a unique opportunity to see some of Austin’s most finely trained dancers perform one of the best-loved ballet stories of all time. It provides an excellent opportunity to get the whole family into the Christmas spirit.

The story of this ballet is one of magic and dream. The main character, Clara, is given a Nutcracker doll for Christmas, which comes to life to defend her against an army of rats. The feel and design of the set for the ballet is designed to reflect this mystical mood, where the line between reality and fiction begin to blur.

Artistic director of the Ballet Austin Company Stephen Mills is has a worldwide reputation for organizing a spectacular show. He has been a representative of the U.S. on the world stage for his feats of choreography. He now pours his full passion for the art of dance into the Ballet Austin Company. Other members of the organizational team include experienced ballet dancer Allisyn Paino, who has recently come on board as the Rehearsal Director for the Ballet Austin Company. The Company aims to be “classically innovative” in their productions, providing new life and zest to classic favorites of ballet. This is why after 48 years of production, the Ballet Austin Nutcracker show continues to stay fresh, while also being true to the essence of the story.
