The Cirque Dreams shows represent a fusion of the American circus and the cirque traditions of performance in Europe. These related but unique styles of physical performance combine to create intriguing and visually mind-blowing shows. These stage shows will lead you into a world that includes not just stunning physical performances but also intriguing explorations of fantasy scenarios. Many people confuse these shows with Cirque du Soleil, but although there are similarities, the Dreams shows are created with the intention of having more action and impact than Cirque du Soleil.
There are a wide range of shows in the Cirque repertoire. Amongst these are Illumination, Jungle Fantasy, Holidaze, Pandemonia and Coobrila. Let’s take a closer look at a few of these.
The Jungle Fantasy show is a mixture of artistic interpretation, acrobatics and dreamlike imagery. The show was the first of its kind to appear on Broadway and it became a hit. Audiences had never experienced this form of entertainment on the Broadway stage and it signified an American interest in new and unusual forms of entertainment outside the traditional world of stage plays and theatre. There is an element of the strangeness of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” in this performance which comes through in everything from the strange jungle set to the more than one hundred unique costumes.
The Holidaze show represents the Cirque take on the Christmas season. All the imagery you associate with Christmas from childhood now comes to life on stage as you watch snowmen move about and reindeer move through the air above you. Coobrila draws its name from the three factors it aims to represent: Coolness, Brightness, and Lateness. This is a unique show that is only put on at Six Flags, creating a bizarre world of mind-defying acrobatics in a maze-like moonscape setting.
