The Jersey Boys is a popular musical drama based on the Four Season, the famous rock n roll band group from the 1960s. The documentary style musical has been running since 2005 in the Broadway. After the big hit of the show, it started tours in many cities in America, Europe, Toronto and Melbourne. This multiple award winning show was well received by the viewers everywhere.
The start for the Jersey Boys was in San Diego of California in the La Jolla Playhouse on October 5, 2004. In November of 2005, it moved to the Broadway at the August Wilson Theatre. The director of the show was Des McAnuff and the choreographer was Sergio Trujillo.
The Jersey Boys started its nationwide journey in 2006 from the Curran Theatre in San Francisco. In later years, it continued its journey in many different large cities in the United States including Chicago, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas etc. The show started in London in 2008 in the Prince Edward Theatre. In the same year, the show was introduced in Melbourne in the Princess Theatre and in Toronto in the Centre for the Arts. The show was very well praised in all the countries.
The original castings of the Broadway show were: John Lloyd Young as Frankie Valli, Christian Hoff as Tommy DeVito, Daniel Reichard, J. Robert Spencer, Peter Gregus, Mark Lotito, Michael Longoria and Jennifer Naimo.
The Jersey Boys won numerous awards for its outstanding performance. It won the Tony Awards in four categories in 2006 including Best Musical, Best Actor in a Musical, Best Featured Actor in a Musical and Best Lighting Design of a Musical. It also won one Grammy Award in the Best Show Album category. Among the other awards, it won the Theater World Award, the Drama Desk Awards in two categories, the Outer Critics Circle Awards in three categories, the Drama League Awards in one category, the What’s On Stage Awards in four categories, Laurence Olivier Award in one category and the Dora Award in two categories.
