The Pixies band formed in 1986 but ran aground due to disagreements, leading to an unceremonious breakup in 1993 instigated by lead singer Black Francis. In fact, Francis even went so far as to inform several members of his decision to dissolve the band by sending them a fax. With an end under these circumstances, it looked unlikely that a reunion would ever come about, and many indie rock die-hards were left heartbroken and holding onto memories of the good old days.
However, by 2004 Francis had changed his tune and was apologetic for the way he had disbanded the Pixie group. In that year, the original members of the band, Joey Santiago on guitar, David Lovering on drums and Kim Deal on bass and supporting vocals, were ready to reunite with Francis and the band took to the recording studio and the concert stage once again.
This year you have a chance to see this iconic and eclectic band in action. They are truly a group who defy clear categorizing, taking elements of their music from indie and punk rock while creating memorable songs about unusual topics, such as meeting a drug dealer or going insane. Despite the Pixies’ quirkiness and bizarre edge, the band manage to create music that fans can move and sing to, making from an electric live show experience.
