Stubb’s BBQ Austin (Bar-B-Q) .. a legendary Austin venue established in 1986, while the original Stubb’s was started in Lubbock TX in 1967. Named after a black man actually named Stubb who grew up in Lubbock to a Baptist preacher. Stubb’s daddy fed his congregation BBQ along with the gospel, and it’s perhaps there that son, Stubb grew to love BBQ..

Stubb’s BBQ Humble Beginnings
Even early on, Stubb’s introduced some of the most important singers of the time. The music in Stubb’s BBQ has always been a great source of entertainment for the customers. Singers like the Maines Brother, Joe Ely and Butch Hancock have all performed there.
At first, the live music was just a Sunday specialty with memorable names like B.B. King, Tom T. Hall, Stevie Ray Vaughn or Willie Nelson.. Sometimes, Stubb himself would take the microphone and join the performer. Rumor has it that Stevie Ray Vaughn learned to play ‘Tin Pan Alley’ while eating a plate of Stubb’s BBQ and listening to the jukebox.

Now a days Stubb’s BBQ is an extremely popular hangout for authentic Texas BBQ eating and lively entertainment.. David Letterman once asked Stubb’s what was in his famous sauce.. to which Stubbs replied, ‘Love and happiness.’ Besides Letterman, Stubb’s has served up other celebrities: Former President, Jimmy Carter and the Queen of England.
When asked for the recipe, Stubb’s willingly shares cause he says, ‘The recipe alone is just words on paper and that won’t do it’
Stubb’s BBQ .. the food I mean, has become so popular that you can now buy products in select Texas grocery stores, at Stubb’s restaurant, and their online store.
