Tommy has been generously recognized for his talents over the years, picking up nine Tony Awards for his various roles on Broadway and his choreography work. Tommy has also been bestowed with the prestigious National Medal of Arts. Other awards he has collected over the years include three Astaire Awards and eight Drama Desk Awards. Tune is truly an all-around star and entertainer, one of the greatest stage performers ever to grace Broadway with his presence.
Tommy’s new show, “Steps in Time,” is a look back on this amazing career and Tommy’s personal life. For fans of Tommy or musical and dance fans in general, this is an excellent opportunity to see into the life of someone who has been on the cutting edge of choreography and the combination of song and dance for the stage for the past several decades. Tommy is joined on stage by the Manhattan Rhythm Kings for tap dancing performances that will blow your mind with their speed and synchronization. Tommy also takes a light-hearted approach to examining his own life with humor and style. His performances are made all the more stunning by his size – Tommy is over six feet and six inches tall, making him not only one of the most talented and experienced dancers in the United States but also literally one of the biggest!
Tommy Tune will be performing the Steps in Time show with the Manhattan Rhythm Kings at the Long Center for the Performing Arts in Austin on Sunday, September 19, 2010.
