Colin Hay Austin Tickets

About Colin Hay:
I’m not even going to ask you to save the date – I know you definitely will for Colin Hay! Yes, the former Men at Work lead vocalist will be here in Austin… and he’s bringing everyone gifts! What gifts, you may ask? Well, what else? His wonderful music and singing talent – live on stage at Austin One World Theater!

Colin Hay who?

Well, for some of you guys who don’t know the name ‘Colin Hay’, you might want to ask your Mom and Dad. I’m sure they’ll tell you all about him. But since you’re here, let me tell you a bit of information about who Colin Hay is.
[ad#300×250 L-side]
Colin Hay is a famous musician from Scotland. In 1978, he started to pursue his career in music – he created a duo with Ron Strykert. After some time, the duo became a complete band after adding some members. Men at Work is one of the successful bands out there (Grammy winner and a lot more). The band called it quits in 1986 but reunited in 1996 – 10 years after. The band is still active with the current members Colin and Greg Ham (keyboards, saxophone, flute, harmonica and vocals).

Colin Hay – The Solo Career

After Men at Work separated, Colin Hay pursued his solo career. His music falls under different genres like Rock, Pop, Acoustic, New Wave and Country. He was able to release eleven studio albums up to date which include ‘Looking for Jack’, ‘Peaks & Valleys’, ‘Wayfaring Sons’, ‘Topanga’, ‘Going Somewhere’, ‘Transcendental Highway’, ‘Man @ Work’, ‘Company of Strangers’, ‘American Sunshine’, ‘Are You Lookin’ at Me?’, and the latest one, ‘Gathering Mercury’.

‘Looking for Jack’ is Colin Hay’s very first album in his solo career. The album received 3 stars from a professional music reviewer. ‘Man @ Work’ is another notable album in Colin Hay’s archive. Men at Work and Man @ Work – see the connection? For this album, some of the songs are actually Colin Hay’s versions from Men at Work songs.

‘American Sunshine’ is one of my favorite albums by Colin Hay. Not because I’m a big fan of Country songs – plus not all of the songs in that album were under that genre. It’s because this album has most of Colin’s personal songs – songs from the heart and songs that describes his relationship with others i.e. ‘There’s Water Over You’, which described his relationship with his mom and dad.

‘Gathering Mercury’ is Colin’s 11 studio album. It was released in May of 2011. Recorded in Colin’s home studio and a bit inspired by his dad (who passed away in 2010), this album cannot be more personal. The Daily Telegraph and Allmusic gave “favorable” as a rating to this album. Interesting, huh?

Did you know? That Colin Hay is married to a singer as well? Yes, indeed. Her name is Cecilia Noel. Cecilia, more often than usual, is the one who sings the back-up vocals at Colin’s shows.

Colin Hay, aside from being a terrific musician, can act, too. Very well, if I may add. He has performed in various TV shows and movies like ‘The Uninvited’, ‘The Country Bears’, ‘Cosi’, ‘Blue Heelers’ and ‘Scrubs’… just to name a few.

Attack Attack! - Attack Attack!

Attack Attack! coming to Austin on February 14. We personally like Emo’s East.. and aside for the fact that Attack Attack! is awesome.. it should be fun.

Attack Attack! Austin Tickets

About Attack Attack!:
A new album usually means a rockin’ tour will follow. For Attack Attack!, it’s no different. Recently announced, Attack Attack! will be releasing their 2012 album titled ‘This Means War’. Together with this wonderful news was the posting of their tour dates. And hurray! ‘This Means War’ tour will be coming in Emo’s East on Valentine’s Day. Ironic? War on Heart’s Day? Well, we strongly believe that it’s going to be a blast!

Attack Attack!?

For some of you who are not yet familiar with this band, Attack Attack! is a band formed in 2005 in Ohio. The band’s music is categorized under post-hardcore, metalcore and electronicore.

[ad#300×250 L-side]As of the moment, the band is composed of members Andrew Wetzel for drums and percussion, John Holgado for bass guitar, Andrew Whiting for lead guitar, and Caleb Shomo for lead vocals, keyboards and synthesizers. When they are on tour, they include Sean Mackowski to handle the rhythm guitar and clean vocals. Former members were Johnny Franck for rhythm guitar and clean vocals, Austin Carlile for lead vocals, Ricky Lortz for rhythm guitar and clean vocals, Nick Barham for lead vocals, and Nick White for bass guitar.

Attack Attack! and their albums

Before making a full album, like many other successful artists nowadays, Attack Attack! first released an EP or extended play. The titled of their EP is ‘If Guns Are Outlawed, Can We Use Swords?’ and was released in 2008.

A little after that EP release, they were able to sign to an Oregon-based music record label, ‘Rise Records’. Come November of the same year, the band was able to release their first studio album titled ‘Someday Came Suddenly’. Notable single on this album was ‘Stick Stickly’ which was named after Nickelodeon’s character – Stick Stickly. This album gained moderate success, received not-so-positive reviews from professional music critics. The album stayed at the number 9 position on the ‘Heatseekers Albums’ chart.

Attack Attack!’s second album, ‘Attack Attack!’, was released in July 2011. This album, however, received a more promising success that their first album. The album maintained the number 5 position on the Billboard Alternative albums chart. It landed the number 6 position on the Billboard Rock Albums chart, number 17 on the Billboard Digital albums charts, and number 26 on Billboard 200. Not bad at all. This time, music critics were also enthusiastic (positively) with their reviews. Notable singles on this album were ‘Smokahontas’ and ‘Last Breath’ (which was present on the Deluxe edition). They were able to promote this album at the 2011 Vans Warped Tour.

As mentioned above, the band has their 3rd studio album ‘This Means War’ ready to be released on January 17, 2012 – so, it will be available for purchase at the time of this concert.

Attack Attack! has a great fan base. Some of them have voiced what they really think about the famous band. One group of college friends stated that Attack Attack!’s live show is definitely one of the greatest shows they’ve ever been to. They really did stand out from the other bands. Another group of guys mentioned that Attack Attack! is truly amazing. And that they are willing to see more of Attack Attack!’s performance – wherever.

Andrea Bocelli Austin Tickets

About Andrea Bocelli:
Words aren’t enough to describe how great and talented Andrea Bocelli is. He is definitely a legend. We all grew up hearing one or more of his songs and to date, we still love hearing and watching him perform. Well, there goes my good news! Andrea Bocelli is on tour… and guess what? It’s true! Andrea Bocelli will be here in Texas. Oh, what a night it will be.

“Andrea Bocelli’s music… his voice… closest thing to heaven”

My own personal comment but I think it matters because it’s so true.

[ad#300×250 L-side]Born on September 22, 1958, Andrea Bocelli is now 53 but still, his music is covetable. He was born in Toscana, Italy. He was born with poor eyesight and later detected with ‘congenital glaucoma’. After a football game accident, he lost his ability to see and that was in 1970 when he was only 12. Everything happens for a reason – you may say. Evidently, that didn’t stop him from anything… even pursuing what he is passionate about. Music. At an early age, Andrea Bocelli had a real love for music. He even said that it was the thing that made him feel at ease.

When I listen to Andrea Bocelli’s songs, I always find myself closing my eyes and just concentrating to that unique voice and how he delivers every note of the song perfectly. It’s a real pleasure listening to him. And that was only listening. When I saw him perform live, I was awestruck. He really is beautiful – his songs, his voice, and everything that he is. No wonder he was named as one of People Magazine’s ‘Most Beautiful People’.  Imagine Andrea Bocelli Austin Frank Erwin Center!

Aside from his brilliant vocals, Andrea Bocelli is also a multi-instrumentalist, being able to play the keyboards, saxophone, flute, trombone, trumpet, harmonica, harp, melodic, guitar and drums. His music is categorized under adult contemporary, classical, Latin pop, easy listening, operatic pop, opera and pop.

Andrea Bocelli and his awesome records

Andrea Bocelli was able to release 13 studio albums, 2 compilation albums, 4 collaborative albums, 8 complete opera recordings, 1 digital album, and 9 live albums and videos.

‘Il Mare Calmo della Sera’ was the title of Andrea Bocelli’s first studio album, released in 1994. It was followed by ‘Bocelli’ which was released a year after. This album made it as one of the best-selling albums ever in Germany. It also peaked number 1 on different charts including Finland, Netherlands, Belgium and Swiss Music charts. To name a few, his other albums were ‘Viaggio Italiano’ in 1997, ‘Sogno’ in 1999, ‘Sacred Arias’ also in 1999, ‘Cieli di Toscana’ in 2001 (which debuted number 11 on the US charts), ‘Amore’ in 2006 (owned the number 3 position on the US Albums Top 100), ‘Incanto’ in 2008 (peaked the number 8 position on the U.S. Billboard 200), and ‘My Christmas’ in 2009 (owned the number 1 position on the US Top Classical Albums).

Andrea Bocelli was able to release a lot of hit singles as well. Some of his solo singles were ‘Il mare calmo della sera’, ‘Ave Maria’, ‘Melodramma’, ‘Un nuovo giorno’ and ‘White Christmas/Bianco Natale’. He was also able to release a lot of duet singles that I personally believe we all really loved and still love. These are ‘Time to Say Goodbye’ with Sarah Brightman, ‘The Prayer’ with Celine Dion, ‘Somos Novios (It’s Impossible)’ with Christina Aguilera, ‘Because we believe’ with Marco Borsato, ‘Dare to live’ with Laura Pausini, ‘What Child Is This’ with Mary J. Blige, and ‘Bridge over Troubled Water’ also with Mary J. Blige – to name a few.

Andrea Bocelli gained a lot of awards. Well, with his talent, it’s really rather expected. Some of the awards that he received were ‘Best Single of the Year’ (Time to Say Goodbye) at Echo music awards in 1997, ‘Best Italian Singer’ and ‘Best Classical Interpretation’ at the World Music Awards in 1998, ‘Best selling classical album’ and ‘Album of the year’ (Sacred Arias) at the Classical BRIT Awards in 2000, ‘World best selling classical artist’ and ‘Best selling Italian artist’ at the World Music Awards in 2002, and ‘Outstanding Contribution to Music’ at the Classical BRIT Awards in 2002 just to name a few.

Andrea Bocelli is certainly one of the greatest in this industry. You will never be disappointed.

In 2009, the band was able to release an album titled ‘Los Lobos Goes Disney’ – the album consists of Disney covers which is a really cool thing, if you ask me. It has Disney’s classics and old time favorites and of course, mixed with their twist. And wait till you hear the album… it’s just magnificent.

Los Lobos, with their unique talent, was able to release a lot of awards. They were able to receive multiple Grammy Awards which include ‘Best Mexican/American Performance’ (Anselma) in 1983, ‘Best Pop Instrumental Performance’ (Mariachi Suite) in 1995, and ‘Best Mexican-American Performance’ (La Pistola Y El Corazon) in 1989.

When it comes to Los Lobos’ live performances, the band cannot be denied – even for a bit. They are known for their lively and entertaining shows. The feeling of ‘want-to-dance-to-all-tunes’ will definitely arise while watching them perform. One group who watched one of their shows described the band as one of the solid and genuine musicians in the industry. They said that Los Lobos is truly talented and for that, they certainly want more… More performances! Well, it’s a good thing that Los Lobos is on tour again – more opportunities to see them perform live.

the The Kills Scoop:
If you’ve been longing to see a rock band – and not just any rock band – then we have a treat for you – The Kills is on tour here in Texas!

The Kills is a rock band composed of two talented musicians – Alison Mosshart (vocals) and Jamie Hince (guitars). They are also known for their stage names as ‘VV’ and ‘Hotel’ respectively. The band’s music is categorized under Indie rock, art rock, garage rock revival, and post punk revival. The duo definitely has a great chemistry when it comes to their music and their performance.

The Kills: The beginning

Before The Kills, Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince were already in a band. Alison was with ‘Discount’ – a punk rock band created in 1995. It was where she started her career as a musician. But after ‘Discount’ was disbanded, she went her way and co-found The Kills with Jamie.

Jamie Hince, before The Kills, was with the bands ‘Scarfo’, ‘Fiji’ and ‘Blyth Power’. Basically, Alison and Jamie first met in a hotel. The story was that Alison heard someone practicing music in a room above hers and found out that it was Jamie. After ‘Discount’ went their separate ways, they began their songwriting. It wasn’t easy given that they were in different countries. But as they always say… With patience, there’s music. (Don’t ask me who said that.)

The Kills and their albums

The Kills’ first album, ‘Keep on Your Mean Side’, was released in April of 2003. It was recorded in London at Toe Rag Studios. The album gained different kinds of reviews – some positive and the others, well, not so positive. But three professional reviewers gave their album a 4-star rating. And that is not an easy thing to achieve.

‘No Wow’ was their second album – it was released in 2005 but was recorded the year before. Like their first album, the reviews were not all positive but then again, they still received a lot of 4-star rating for this one. This album of The Kills peaked at number 22 on the US Heatseekers.

Their 3rd album ‘Midnight Boom’ was released in March of 2008. This album garnered a lot of good reviews – gaining a 5-star rating from one of its critiques. The album also owned the number 1 position on the US Heatseekers. On the US Independent Albums chart, the album peaked at number 16. Also, one of the follow-up singles – ‘Sour Cherry’ – was included on Gossip Girl (famous teen drama TV series).

The Kills’ fourth and latest album was titled ‘Blood Pressures’. The album was released last April 4, 2011 under Domino Records. The album received a lot of positive reviews – including BBC music’s review. The album’s first single ‘Satellite’ gained a lot of good reviews after being released on iTunes in January of this year (2011). The album has already charted number 8 on France charts and number 37 on the US Billboard Hot 200.

Aside from the professional critiques, their fans have also voiced out their reviews for the band. One group of friends said that The Kills is a must-see rock band and that once they are on stage, they will capture your attention and never let it go. Another group said that the band’s performance was the best show they’ve ever seen.

One of their fans said that she was a bit disappointed about the show… just a bit. She said that she wished that they had played longer. 🙂 And definitely, it was the best performance she’d ever seen so she wants to see more of them! Well, I say get more tickets for The Kills tour and have a blast!

How about you? Got any tickets yet? If I were you, I will not think twice about this – they are selling fast. Go and get tickets for The Kills tour now!

You might be wondering about where they got the name… Well, you know George C. Scott’s 1971 film – ‘They Might Be Giants’? There you go.

They Might Be Giants – Album talk

To date, They Might Be Giants has released 15 studio albums, 6 live albums, 8 compilation albums, 21 extended plays (EP) and 5 video albums.

‘Birdhouse in Your Soul’ was the first single from the album ‘Flood’. This song was used in a UK TV advert (Clarks Shoes). It owned the number 6 position on the UK Singles chart while peaking at number 3 on the US Modern Rock Tracks chart. From the same album, their cover of ‘Istanbul (Not Constantinople)’ gained a huge success too. Also from the same album, the song ‘Particle Man’ also garnered a lot of positive acceptance and, along with ‘Istanbul (Not Constantinople)’, was used in Warner Bros. ‘Tiny Toon Adventures’ (an animated series).

‘No’ was They Might Be Giants’ 9th studio album – also their first children’s album. It was released in June of 2002. ‘Here Come the ABCs’ was their 2nd children’s album – under Idlewild and Walt Disney records. More about Bill Burr:
Bill Burr, the famous stand-up comedian, will be here in Texas – and we’re not kidding!

If you want to have a night of fun – if you want to laugh and laugh – and experience pure comedy, then think no more… You have to see Bill Burr perform!

Bill Burr: Up close and a bit personal

Bill Burr is a man that has the perfect bit for amusement. He is a stand-up comedian from Massachusetts – he is also an actor and a very famous radio host. His real name is William and he was born on June 10, 1968. His comedy piece falls under different genres like cringe humor, black comedy, observational comedy and satire. Bill Burr’s subjects are often about human sexuality, political correctness, race relations, professional sports, and my personal favorite, dating. Bill Burr’s comedy is influenced by some of the known stand-up comedian like Richard Pryor, Sam Kinison, and George Carlin.

Bill Burr pursued his career in stand-up when he was 23 years old. As a starting comedian, he performed to various projects. Through his career, he was able to perform on different famous shows like ‘Late Night with Conan O’Brien’, ‘The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien’, ‘The Late Show with David Letterman’, and ‘The Green Room with Paul Provenza’. Did you know? That Bill Burr is the first comedian (stand-up) to ever present stand-up comedy on ‘The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien’? Yes, he did at that and it was pretty amazing.

Working as an actor, Bill Burr appeared on ‘Chappelle’s Show’ as one of the casts – for two episodes. Also, he got a gig on HBO’s ‘One Night Stand’ in 2005 as one of the stand-up comedians to deliver their own specials. Other gigs/appearances as a comedian were on the ‘Bob and Tom Show’, ‘Comedy Central Presents’, XM Satellite Radio’s ‘Opie and Anthony Show’, ‘Just for Laughs’ and ‘Comics Come Home 2’. He was also able to host a radio channel program called ‘The Virus’ in 2006. The title was ‘Uninformed’ and as of now, Bill Burr is still co-hosting the show with Joe DeRosa. And the news is, there’s a big chance that they will be doing the show for a very long time.

Bill Burr’s albums

About Wicked:
“Something has changed within me, something is not the same. I’m through with playing by the rules of someone else’s game.

Too late for second-guessing, too late to go back to sleep. It’s time to trust my instincts, close my eyes: and leap!”

You’re probably wondering why I have a part of Defying Gravity’s lyrics here. For sure, I am singing it… but not the version of Rachel and Kurt’s from Glee. I am singing the version from Wicked, you know, the musical.

Wait… Are we talking about ‘Wicked Witch of the West’? ‘Good Witch of the North’?

Exactly. I am so proud to announce that Wicked, the musical show, is currently on tour. They will be here in Texas for several days so mark your calendars now.

Paul Simon Cedar Park Tickets

Info about Paul Simon:
A very successful musician has recently announced his Fall US Tour… Any idea who?

Clue: He is the ‘Simon’ in Simon & Garfunkel…

Yep. That’s him… Paul Simon, ladies and gentlemen! This is very exciting, my friends!

Paul Simon is a well-known singer, songwriter, musician and record producer. We all first knew him as Simon from the American Duo ‘Simon & Garfunkel’. His music plays around the genres of folk rock, folk-pop, soft rock and world fusion.

Paul Simon: Early years

“That’s nice, Paul. You have a nice voice”.

These were the words of Paul Simon’s father after hearing him sing the first time in his room. According to a source, this really encouraged Paul to pursue his career in singing. He idolized his father well enough. I think it’s very sweet. And are we thankful that he did at that. The music industry will not be the same without the influence of Paul Simon as a solo artist and from the duo ‘Simon & Garfunkel’.

[ad#300×250 L-side]

Paul Simon’s singing career started at his very young age. At the age of 11, he was already in acquaintance with Art Garfunkel and they would perform together in their high school’s productions like graduation programs and school dances. Basically, they were influenced by The Everly Brothers (famous country rock and roll duo).

Paul Simon: Simon & Garfunkel

Before the name ‘Simon & Garfunkel’ was born, they used to play under the name ‘Tom & Jerry’ but come 1964, when they signed a contract with Columbia Records, they changed their name to ‘Simon & Garfunkel’. The duo was able to release five albums from which a lot of number 1 singles (that are still sang and used until now) were derived from. Some of their notable singles were ‘The Sound of Silence’, ‘Mrs. Robinson’, and ‘Bridge over Troubled Water’. The duo received a lot of awards as well – several Grammys, Brit Awards, and just come 1990, they were inducted into the ‘Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’. The two went their separate ways in 1970.

Paul Simon’s Solo Career

After the ‘Simon & Garfunkel’ separation, Paul Simon started to pursue his solo career. In 1972, he was able to release a self-titled album (second one as a solo artist). His first solo album was actually ‘The Paul Simon Songbook’ which was released in 1965.

In 1973, Paul Simon released his 3rd solo album titled ‘There Goes Rhymin’ Simon’ which received 5 stars rating from professional music critics. The album charted number 2 on the U.S. Billboard Pop Albums and number 4 on the UK Albums chart. In 1975, he released another album, making it his 5th album, titled ‘Still Crazy After All These Years’. This album owned the number 1 position on the US Billboard Pop Albums. ‘Heart and Bones’ was his 6th studio album which was released in 1983. Following that was ‘Graceland’ which was released in 1986. The album ‘Graceland’ charted number 1 on Australian, Dutch, French, New Zealand, Swiss and UK album charts, number 2 on German Albums charts, and number 3 on U.S. Billboard Pop albums. This album also won two Grammys – the 1987 ‘Album of the Year’ and 1988 ‘Record of the Year’.

Paul’s other albums were the following: ‘The Rhythm of the Saints’ in 1990, ‘Songs from The Capeman’ in 1997, ‘You’re the One’ in 2000, ‘Surprise’ in 2006, and the latest album which was released in April of this year (2011), ‘So Beautiful or So What’. This album charted number 4 on US Billboard 200 and Swedish Albums charts and number 2 on Norwegian Albums charts. This album also received a 4-stars rating from Rolling Stone.

Paul Simon was able to receive a lot of awards and honors. He won 12 Grammy Awards, and received a Grammy Hall of Fame Award for ‘Bridge over Trouble Water’ in 1998.

Did you know? That Paul is an advocate of children’s music education? Back in 1970, he held auditions for a workshop that will hone young songwriters’ talents. He did select six young songwriters at that.

Paul Simon is also an official sponsor, along with many other musicians, of ‘Little Kids Rock’ – an organization built to provide instruments and lessons to kids in public schools. Paul is also one of the co-founders of the ‘Children’s Health Fund’ and ‘Children’s Health Project’.

Ron White Austin Tickets

more about Ron White: Are you ready for ‘Tater Salad’? Yes, the one and only – Ronald White or just simply Ron White is on tour.

Ron White was born in 1956 here in Texas. He is a well-known and successful stand-up comedian concentrating on the country comedy, observational comedy and satire genres. The ‘Tater Salad’ nickname was given to him by his fellow sailors back when he served in the Navy. He has a real fondness for potato salad …

Ron White and the comedy

“… You can’t fix stupid”

This is Ron White’s famous punchline when he’s doing his standup. He is also known to perform with a cigar on the right hand and a scotch on the left. You may also remember him from ‘Blue Collar Comedy Tour’ where he and his 3 comedian friends (Jeff Foxworthy, Bill Engvall, and Larry the Cable Guy) performed as a comedy troupe. They were a big hit!

Having a career in comedy was Ron White’s dream. After serving the Navy, he decided to pursue his dream job; he performed from gig to gig which was very nice for experience but didn’t really help him that much financially. He had to sell windows on the side to make ends meet. It was tough but as they say, “Patience is a virtue” and “Good things come to those who wait”.

[ad#300×250 L-side]

Come January 2000, Ron White found the gig that made him successful – the ‘Blue Collar Comedy Tour’. The tour ended in March 2003. As I have mentioned before, they were a big hit. The fans love the four performing together and even when they are performing separately.

In November of 2003, Ron White released his first comedy CD titled ‘Drunk in Public’. It received a 4.5-stars rating (5 stars being the highest), and charted number two on the U.S. Billboard Top Comedy Albums and U.S. Billboard Top Heatseekers. In 2006, Ron White released another album titled ‘You Can’t Fix Stupid’ which received a 4-stars rating from professional critics. This album owned the number 1 position on the U.S. Billboard Top Comedy Albums. Come 2009, he released a DVD and album titled ‘Behavioral Problems’ which peaked number 1 on the U.S. Billboard Top Comedy Albums. His other CDs/comedy releases were ‘Tater Salad aka. Busted in Des Moines’ and ‘They Call Me Tater Salad’.

Ron White can also be seen in TV shows and films. He appeared in TV shows like ‘Reno 911!’, ‘Kath & Kim’, and ‘12 Miles of Bad Road’, and on the film ‘Sex and the City 2’. He also portrayed a supporting role in the recent comedy movie ‘Horrible Bosses’.

Did you know? That there is a ‘Ron White Day’? Oh, yes, there is! Well, it was given to him here in Texas. The Texas legislative officials appointed April 27, 2009 to be the ‘Ron White Day’.

Ron White was also able to write a book, “Ron “Tater Salad” White: I Had the Right to Remain Silent…But I Didn’t Have the Ability”. It was released in June of 2006 under Penguin Books.

Being able to appreciate music at an early age (his early teen years), he learned how to play the organ but then, after such inspirations like Thomas ‘Fats’ Waller, he decided to learn and play acoustic piano. George Winston’s albums

In 1972, he was able to release his very first album titled ‘Ballads and Blues’. This album was produced by Doug Decker and John Fahey. The album contained George Winston’s compositions and some covers. This album was re-released in 1994 and 2006. In 1980, George Winston released the album ‘Autumn’. This album received 5 stars rating (5 being the highest) from a professional critic. The album was re-released in 2001 with ‘Too Much Between Us’ as a bonus track.

In 1982, he released two albums: ‘Winter into Spring’ on March and ‘December’ on October. The latter received 5 stars rating from critics. Come 1991, George Winston released his 6th album titled ‘Summer’. 3 years after that, he was able to release another album, ‘Forest’. Although this album gained only 3 stars from critics, it received a Grammy Award for ‘Best New Age Album’ in 1996.

George Winston continued to release more albums. In 1996, ‘Linus and Lucy: The Music of Vince Guaraldi’ was released as his 10th album. The album received a 4.5 stars rating. In 1999, he released his 11th album titled ‘Plains’ which ended up with 4 stars rating from critics. This album followed the 1998 album titled ‘All the Seasons’.

George Winston and the 21st century

In 2001, ‘Remembrance – A Memorial Benefit’ was released as George Winston’s 12th album. The earnings from this album were actually donated to the people who lost their loved ones from the 9/11 tragedy. The thirteenth album, ‘Night Divides the Day – The Music of the Doors’, was released in 2002 and as per the title, it featured the covers (piano only) of ‘The Doors’ rock band. The album received 4 stars rating.

‘Montana – A Love Story’ was released in 2005 as George Winston’s 14th album. It also received 4 stars from professional critics. In 2006, he released a second benefit album/15th album titled ‘Gulf Coast Blues & Impressions: A Hurricane Relief Benefit’. The earnings here were donated to the victims of ‘Hurricane Katrina’. Another 4 stars rating was achieved.

George Winston released his latest album (released February 2010) titled ‘Love Will Come: The Music of Vince Guaraldi, Volume 2’. This album is actually a kind-of ‘part 2’ of the 1996 ‘Linus and Lucy: The Music of Vince Guaraldi’ – a tribute to the beloved ‘Vince Guaraldi’, a jazz pianist.

Did you know? George Winston owns a record label. It’s called ‘Dancing Cat Records’ and was created in 1983.

George Winston is known for his mood-setting and mesmerizing performances. He is also known to dress rather simply when performing. He also was reported to play in stocking feet (removing his shoes when playing) which as he explained in one of his interviews, as his way of controlling the pedals more effectively.

He has received a lot of reviews/comments coming from his fans. One of his fans said that he just can’t have enough of George Winston’s music and that he can listen to him for hours and not be bored AT ALL. He also said that watching him play live was the best time of his life. He also mentioned that he even bought another ticket and watched it with his entire family. (You see, if I haven’t mentioned already, George Winston’s music is for everyone.) Another satisfied follower also said something that is worth mentioning here. She said that George’s performance was just remarkable and that she wished that the show didn’t have to end that night. Well, there’s always another tour – if the tickets aren’t sold out yet. So, if I were you, I will go ahead and buy tickets for George Winston’s shows…as in NOW.

Beauty and the Beast Poster

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast:
“Tale as old as time, true as it can be… Barely even friends then somebody bends unexpectedly…

Just a little change, small, to say the least… Both a little scared… neither one prepared …Beauty and the Beast”

What a classic tune. Why am I singing this song? Well, well, well. Disney’s Beauty and the Beast will be in town.

I’m just merely preparing myself. Oh, it’s going to be a wonderful performance. Let’s get to know the musical a little bit better, shall we?

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast
Up close and ‘almost’ personal:

Cartoons, animations, the rendition of movies/cartoons from 1946 down to the latest 2009 film, we’ve all seen the numerous versions of Beauty and the Beast. For some time, there was even a TV series with the same name. Well, it was a sort of updated version of the fairy tale.

And most especially if you have a kid, you must have seen the film of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast a million times – it doesn’t really get old to them (to be completely honest, it doesn’t really get old to me, too. I wonder why?) All of them were great in their ways and on how they presented the classic fairy tale. But this time, we’re talking about Disney’s Beauty and the Beast musical (which again, if you have a kid, you will keep on getting tickets for the show – every year. The story doesn’t get old to them – and, again, to me.)

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast musical happens to be the 8th longest running Broadway production in history. This musical is, of course, based on the 1991 film produced by Disney.

Did you know? The first Disney’s Beauty and the Beast performance was here in Texas back in 1993? It was performed in Houston under Disney Theatricals and Theatre Under The Stars production.

The music in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is arranged and composed by Alan Menken. The lyrics were done by the two popular lyricists in the country – Howard Ashman and Tim Rice. The screenplay was written by the same person who co-wrote the one for ‘The Lion King’ – it was Linda Woolverton. Alan Menken is a well-known musical theatre composer and musician (pianist). He also composed the music for ‘Alladin’, ‘The Little Mermaid’, ‘Pocahontas’, ‘Hercules’, ‘The Last Castle’, ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’, ‘Home on the Range’, ‘Tangled’, and ‘Enchanted’. These people are purely genius, I say. Their compositions/lyrics/screenplay are just incredible, imaginative and colorful.

Currently, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast cast members are the following: Dane Agostinis (Beast), Emily Behny (Belle), Jen Bechter (Madame de la Grande Bouche), Michael Haller (Lumiere), Logan Denninghoff (Gaston), Chandon Jones (Babette, Dance Captain), Julia Louise Hosack (Mrs. Potts), Noah Jones and Sebastian Hedges Thomas (Chip), Andrew Kruep (LeFou), Benjamin Lovell (Cogsworth), Christopher Spencer (Maurice), David Baur, Jeff Brooks, Carly Casey, Brittany Conigatti, Brian Kess, Caroline Kittrell, Amanda Grace Holt, Kolby Kindle, Matt Kopec, Caitlyn Leary, Carter Lynch, Nick Nelson, Jessica Lorion, Michael Whitney, Sarah Claire Smith, Taylor Hilt Mitchell, Lauren Palmeri and Mandy Striph.

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast plot

Oh, we all know this so I’ll be short and quick.

Basically, the prince needs to learn how to love and be loved back – even with his ‘beastly’ appearance. How the prince landed to that curse? Well, what else? With the help of his cold-hearted attitude and I-only-care-about-myself mindset, he made an attractive enchantress (who was posing as a poor beggar when she asked for help from the prince) really mad that she turned him into that creature. Well, not only that, she also turned the prince’s servants into various objects (Now I’m wondering what would be the best object to be… teacup? Cabinet? Too dull? Anyway.) For the record, the prince was gorgeous and young, for that matter. So that is the dilemma. And we all know how it works out for him and for Belle – oh, the ever amazing and pretty Belle.

For me, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is definitely romantic. I mean, true love, people. This is really the fairy tale for the whole family – yes, even Uncle Earl. It is a musical that will surely awaken your fairy-tale beliefs that true love really exists somewhere out there. There’s a lot of lesson to be learned from this musical, indeed.

Dolly Parton Cedar Park Tickets

Dolly Parton Info:
Are you ready for ‘The Queen of Country Music’? Oh, yes, the one and only, Dolly Parton! She is really famous. Operative word being ‘IS’. Still IS famous. She is a legend. And I may be the first one to say this (although, I doubt it), she is a legend NOT only in music… Let’s get to know her a bit better here.

Dolly Rebecca Parton, in the biz – she is only known as Dolly Parton or just plain ‘Dolly’, was born in Tennessee. And I love her accent, really. They have a big family – she has 11 siblings (she being the 4th born child). Dolly Parton discovered her talent at an early age. She was very into music so she would perform on radio and TV programs in their area. No wonder that at age 13, she was able to record on Goldband Records- a label from Louisiana.

After graduating high school, she moved to Nashville (where country music rocks!). Well, I would love to be on Nashville. Seriously. Anyway, back to Dolly.

Dolly Parton, after moving from her birthplace, became a famous songwriter. She wrote songs that was later charted on Billboards. After that, she concentrated on her singing career.

Dolly Parton – A glimpse of her many albums

Did you know? Dolly Parton was able to release 41 studio albums… 41. Four – one. That’s a lot. And to think that all of those albums received major success… Gosh. Without a doubt, an 800 word-article doesn’t give her enough justice… but I will try.

Here are some of her notable albums. Her very first album was released in 1967. It was titled ‘Hello, I’m Dolly’. It ranked number 11 on the U.S. Top Country Albums (which was really not bad for a first album). This album received a 4.5 stars rating from Allmusic. Other albums were the following: ‘Just Because I’m a Woman’ in 1968, ‘In the Good Old Days (When Times Were Bad)’ in 1969, ‘My Blue Ridge Mountain Boy’ also in 1969 (ranked number 6 on the U.S. Top Country Albums chart), ‘The Fairest of Them All’ in 1970, ‘Heartbreaker’ in 1978 (peaked number 1 on U.S. Billboard Top Country Albums and Canadian RPM Country Albums), ‘Dolly, Dolly, Dolly’ in 1980 (peaked number on Canadian RPM Country Albums), ‘Slow Dancing with the Moon’ in 1993 (peaked number 4 on U.S. Billboard Top Country Albums), ‘Those Were the Days’ in 2005 (peaked number 2 on Top Independent Albums), ‘Backwoods Barbie’ in 2008 (peaked number 2 on U.S. Billboard Top Country Albums and U.S. Billboard Independent Albums), and the recent album released – ‘Better Day’ in 2011 (June). It landed the number 1 position on UK Country Albums Chart and number 5 on Australian Country Albums Chart.

Now, Dolly Parton is not only known for her singing and songwriting career (not to mention the record producing gig that she has)… She is also a well-known actress – a great one, indeed. She was on the movie ‘Nine to Five’ where she portrayed a role of a secretary. She was actually nominated as the ‘New Star Of The Year – Actress’ and ‘Best Actress in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy’ at the Golden Globe Awards for that role.

To be honest, I first saw her portray the role of ‘Truvy Jones’ as one of the girls from ‘Steel Magnolias’ (1989). I really loved her acting so I dug in to the other films that she was in. She played the role of ‘Mona Stangley’ on the movie ‘The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas’ where she, again, was nominated for a Golden Globe Award. Her other notable portrayals were in ‘Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous’ as herself (just a cameo appearance), ‘Straight Talk’ as Shirlee Kenyon and the 2011 animated movie ‘Gnomeo & Juliet’ as the voice of Dolly Gnome’.

Dolly Parton had her fair share of TV appearances and acting performances as well. She played the role of Katrina Eloise Murphy on ‘The Magic School Bus’, a TV series in 1996. Also, in ‘Reba’, a family sitcom, she played as Dolly Majors in 2005. And, of course, we all know about ‘Aunt Dolly’ from Hannah Montana. Gosh, I always loved it whenever she appeared on Hannah Montana.

Some of Dolly Parton’s Awards

Out of 45 Grammy Award nominations, she was able to win 8 of them. Eight. Grammy. Awards. Hu-hum. That’s really a lot already. Winning one makes you a very very known person. What more with eight, right? Also, she was able to win 10 awards from the Country Music Association and 7 awards from Academy of Country Music.

Dolly Parton is timeless. She is. She will be dear to our hearts forever. She has given the phrase ‘country music’ a new meaning which led other country music singers today to its path… and I truly believe that her concert here in Texas will be one of her very best! So go and get your tickets now. It’s almost gone!

Ballet Austin The Nutcracker ~ Long Center Dec 3-23

The Nutcracker ~ Austin Long Center

The Nutcracker – Austin Long Center For The Performing Arts Dell Hall

The Nutcracker ~ Austin Long Center:  When December 3rd arrives, we can certainly feel the Holiday spirit with this magical Austin Christmas tradition.

[ad#300×250 L-side Margins]The songs you hear on the radio, the shows you’re about to see… they’re all about Christmas or at least traditionally seen before or during Christmas time. Well, the ever popular Ballet Austin’s The Nutcracker production isn’t any different. It all started in the 60s. Before or at Christmas season, complete ballet shows are being performed within the United States. Well, I say this is a great tradition. Certainly, Christmas season isn’t going to be complete without me, my family and relatives seeing this Austin tradition.

The Nutcracker? Who? What?

The Nutcracker is a ballet created by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. He is a Russian composer who also created the other popular ballets today – ‘Swan Lake’, ‘The Sleeping Beauty’, and ‘1812 Overture’. The choreography of this two-act ballet was initially done by Lev Ivanov and Marius Petipa. This ballet was first seen in December of 1892. The first production was filled with mixed reviews from critics but even then, especially with Tchaikovsky’s score, the critics couldn’t help but be mesmerized and be inspired by the act.

The Nutcracker’s story takes place at the house of the Silberhaus on Christmas Eve and ends with the Silberhaus’ daughter and the Prince being crowned to rule ‘Confiturembourg’ indefinitely. You are sure to be inspired, captivated, and be in awe the whole time.

Ballet Austin’s The Nutcracker

Ballet Austin is a ballet academy in Texas. It is one of the largest classical ballet companies in our country. It caters classes for children (starting ages 3 and 4) and adults. One of their longest running ballet shows is The Nutcracker. In fact, they are on their 49th annual production of the said ballet.

Stephen Mills is the one who does the choreography for this ballet show and music is played by the Austin Symphony Orchestra. As of the moment, Ballet Austin has 22 company dancers which include Ian J. Bethany, Michael Burfield, Paul Michael Bloodgood, Edward Carr, Orlando Julius Canova, Ashley Lynn Gilfix, James Fuller, Rebecca Johnson, Anne Marie Melendez, Jordan Moser, Aara Krumpe, Elise Pekarek, Preston Andrew Patterson, Oren Porterfield, Frank Shott, Chelsea Renner, Christopher Swaim, Brittany Strickland, Beth Terwilleger, Kirby Wallis, Jaime Lynn Witts, and Michelle Thompson.

Since Ballet Austin is a ballet teaching school too, the kids (party scene and the others) from Act I are played by the children from the academy. Basically, the students from the academy are given opportunities to be a part of the show. In total, there are over 200 dancers for this ballet act alone.

Certainly, The Nutcracker – Austin has given justice to the Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s composition. Stephen Mills’ choreography is said to be ‘sprinkled with magic’. You’ll be enthralled with the dancers’ moves and how they portray their steps altogether. The music is, as always, lively and endearing – Austin Symphony Orchestra definitely is an amazing and talented group. The orchestra, by the way, was founded in 1911 (100 years old this year! Congratulations!).

Atlanta Ballet’s The Nutcracker will not only amaze you with its choreography though. Starting from the stage effects down to the tiniest detail of the show, you are sure to be at the edge of your seat – waiting for whatever wonderful thing will happen next. One of the famous stage effects that they have is the scene with Clara as she shrinks to doll-size. Around her, of course, the things are growing bigger – especially the Christmas tree. This scene definitely charms the whole audience every time as it is pretty unbelievable and always referred as a ‘truly magical moment’. Of course, the costumes of the dancers are not to be ignored, too. One may think that ‘It’s a ballet. Costumes are the same’. Well, aside from the fact that it’s an act too, the dancers’ costumes are just magnificent and entirely different from the other.

The Nutcracker is a show that can’t be missed! If you don’t have a holiday tradition yet, it’s a good time to start one now. This ballet show will certainly put you in the mood for the holidays (if you aren’t already).  Don’t wait until they’re all sold out.
