[ad#300×250 L-side Margins] The Texas Longhorns Prepare for 2011 Victory – The Texas Longhorns football team will be performing at the peak for local fans at the the Frank Erwin Center throughout the 2011 season. This is a chance for Austin football fans to watch this team pass and tackle their way into the finals as they present one of the strongest and most confident line-ups since their last championship win in 2005.
The Longhorns are the foundation of Texas football. This is reflected in the fact that for the past 71 NFL Drafts, one or more Longhorns players have been selected. The Longhorns program is steeped in history and has long been devoted to bringing young Texans to the top of their physical potential on the field. In fact, the history of football at the University of Texas extends back well over a hundred years, with the first team hitting the field in 1893. Since then the Longhorns have risen to greatness and fallen back down numerous times. Their 1963 championship win was spear-headed by coach Darrel K. Royal, who took over leadership of the team at a time when their prospects were looking incredibly bleak. Royal took over a losing team in 1957 and within six years had turned the side into a championship winner. Royal coached the team to championship wins again in 1969 and 1970, and his coaching record included an incredible 30-win streak.
The current coach of the Longhorns, Mack Brown, is the only coach other than Royal to have led the team to a national championship victory. The Brown-led team came close to snatching up another national championship title in 2010, after an undefeated season led them to a face-off with Alabama. However, the Longhorns ended up on the wrong side of a 37-21 final score in that game, and will be looking to the 2011 season for a chance to redeem that loss.
